Chapter 6
Marcus used his tongue to place the blade back into its scarab. He felt Liz land in his stomach and he closed the door flap that lead to his mouth. Marcus felt somewhat regretful of his harsh lessons, but reminded himself that she would have to learn sooner or later, and Marcus could not afford to make it later.
He looked down and saw Isaac leaning against the outer wall of the museum. His indestructible grey and violet leather coat was scratching the wall behind it. Marcus looked down at him and reminded himself that although Marcus was many times his size, it was still likely that Isaac was stronger. Marcus said to him, “What purpose brings you here?”
“I wanted to tell you that thanks to your actions at Treasure Island, what is possibly the last of the human race is getting ever closer to extinction.”
“What do you mean? The men I killed deserved their ends and such ends resulted in the creation of a free state. What did I do endanger the rightfully living’s lives?”
“Do you remember burning down the armory?”
Marcus felt a pain in his mind that did not exist before. He has not lied since he became a dragon and refused to do so from then on. Isaac knew the answer to that question, so Marcus simply asked, “What trouble did my activities cause?”
“The automated turrets at the other side of the bridge; they are fed by tubes that go through the bridges supports. It would seem that the tubes lead to the armory, where a large stockpile is held. You blew that stockpile apart, and now the guns are guaranteed to run out of ammo some time in the next seventy two hours. On top of that, a helicopter flew over our base around noon, and the pilot was completely insane. The only thing he told us before committing suicide was that an army of a hundred million undead is headed this way. I have the oddest feeling that you know something about that, considering your travels.”
“Yes, we did see the army; the undead are a legion that has grown to the point where even I, a beast of the air, could not see either horizon. I turned north and then southwest when I deemed us out of their senses’ range.”
“Well, you did a terrible job; the undead will be here soon, so I pray you will be able to make up for your flaw.”
Isaac turned around and walked away. Marcus leapt into the air and dived into the waters of the Pacific Ocean. The water was warm and clear like the inlet he called home.
Marcus swam around before swallowing massive gulps of water. He felt his stomach stretch as his muscles worked the water down his throat.
Liz only had enough time to grab to a small hole in Marcus’s inner stomach before a white wall of water pounded against her body. Her muscles held her in place, and she tried to ride it out. Liz tried to hold her breath, but she realized that she did not need air. It was only then that Liz came to the realization that she did not need anything she needed before; food, water, air, and sleep were not needed anymore. She let go of her nose and mouth and let the water in. Her lungs started to jolt rapidly and her body jerked to either side. Liz had no control, but she did not have a choice in the matter. She simply let it be and waited for the shaking to stop. To take her mind off it, Liz tried to think of how her life would have been different had Armageddon never come to pass.
It was an hour later that she felt her body lay still. Liz was floating at the top of Marcus’s stomach, but the layer of small bumps on the walls told her a different story. Liz realized that Marcus let her float to his small intestine and she started to yell, “Marcus! If you expect me to go all the way through you, then…”
She trailed off as the doorway leading back to Marcus’s stomach closed behind her. Marcus remained silent and Liz did what she could to open the closed path. It did not stir, but Liz kept trying; There were many paths Liz wanted to travel upon, but Marcus’s colon was not among those paths. She eventually gave up and let her body flow with the water. When she got out (a thought she refused to ponder upon) Marcus would pay.
Marcus was so amused, he believed the days events bared repeating every time someone came to speak with him. By the time the sun started to set, Marcus had told Demetrius, Karen, Mish and Dragoon – who had made love for the first time since marriage – Thomas, Mitch, Zack, Colson – who told everyone under his command – a group of soldiers Marcus did not even know, two lovers that wanted to make love under his wing, Steven, Stephen, Stephan, the priest, Jason, and three other random people who happened to come across him. Not one of the men and women mentioned above were capable of keeping a strait face.
An hour after the two lovers noticed above had finished their sins and left him with smiling faces, Liz was free from both her humanly habits and Marcus’s grip. She landed on the rock and would have kissed it, had it not been covered in the same dark liquid that covered her body. She ran to Marcus’s mouth and tried to get in, but he closed shop before she could enter. He pinned her to the ground with a single talon. Liz said, “You have no idea how angry I am right now.”
“No I don’t; thankfully, my journeys have never brought me where you have gone.”
When her anger was lessened, Marcus lifted his claw and gave her the privilege of taking a bath. She jumped into the water of a swimming pool and started to remove her cloths. Marcus, who curled into a ball around the pool, made a half assed effort to cover his eyes. Liz knew he already knew her body well enough, but she let him have his fun anyway. As she dried off and walked into the pool’s house for cloths, Marcus said, “My lessons are finished for the time being. Take the rest of the night to rest and relax, for I will have more for you in the morrow.”
“But I’m ready!”
“Be careful how much of your willpower you use at one time; it cannot kill you, but it could possibly cripple you long enough for you to make a mistake. If you cannot sleep, then at least pretend to do so and try to understand my harsh lessons. Patience is a virtue you need to keep sacred; test it now, and the payoff later will be substantial.”
Liz exited the house with not a bundle of cloths, but the entire dresser. She threw a red bathrobe over her naked body and said, “I’ll look for cloths in the morning.”
She walked up to Marcus, whose claws were dangling over the edge of the pool. Liz climbed between his front claw and his stomach, where she promptly fell asleep on a bed of grass.
